I gave this book to my son when he was 12. There's action, there's social history, and there's 'the human consequences of battle': death, maiming, depression, heroism and cowardice. We follow him through his tour of duty in Vietnam and, apart from sex which Myers manages to side step, we get everything an adult novel of the same genre would include.
